Over the last several years, Fremont has become a national hotspot for battery development and manufacturing. From electric vehicle (EV) and clean energy company Telsa to leading manufacturer of high-energy lithium-ion batteries Amprius, we’re proud to be home to nearly that significantly contribute to our growing economy.

That being said, we knew we could do even more to put Fremont on the map and make stakeholders aware of how and why Fremont is being chosen as the stomping grounds for these world-leading clean energy initiatives, which led to our role in the 2024 California Battery Summit.

We partnered with the Governor’s Office of Business Development and the California Energy Commission as well as presenting sponsor Lawrence Berkeley National Labs and supporting sponsors RK Logistics and Ava Energyto help bring this vision to life.

On March 15, the California Battery Summit welcomed over 200 guests from across the sector to Fremont’s Downtown Event Center, including industry association members, public and regulatory agencies, and elected officials, to learn more about how to facilitate and support battery R&D and manufacturing in California.

The event featured world-class exhibits and innovations from leading battery manufacturers such as Moxion’s energy storage system, Ryvid’s all-electric motorcycle, EnerVenue’s lithium batteries, and Sysco’s EV truck. Our very own Fremont Police Department also made an appearance, showcasing two of our Tesla police patrol vehicles, which connect to Moxion’s clean energy storage system.

In addition to the expo, attendees had the opportunity to attend keynotes featuring prominent industry leaders and state figures on topics including policy, developing California’s battery supply chain, addressing market barriers for battery manufacturing, emerging technologies and priority research needs, and battery safety.

And while these industry leaders were in town, we also took the opportunity to showcase Fremont’s diverse ecosystem of battery and energy storage-related companies and further cement Fremont’s position as a leader in advanced manufacturing by offering factory tours of EV charging and energy storage company FreeWire Technologies and Fremont-based battery manufacturer EnerVenue.

The event was a big success – and we’re already on the lookout for future opportunities to further energize Fremont’s battery momentum.

One future development that we are particularly excited about is RK Logistics’ new, state-of-the-art battery handling facility on Kato Rd., which will be the largest battery handling facility in California at 209,000 square feet.

It doesn’t stop there. With our unique expertise in permitting highly complex operations and providing programmatic oversight for hazardous material management, we’re confident Fremont’s mark on the battery and clean tech scene will only continue to grow.
