It’s that time of year again; we’re celebrating National Manufacturing Day in Fremont! Manufacturing (MFG) Day started in 2012 and is now observed every first Friday in October to empower the industry and encourage businesses to open their doors to the next generation of workers. As Fremont’s largest industry, manufacturing accounts for more than 1 in 4 jobs. The City is excited to participate in this annual celebration and continue the impactful work being done by manufacturing companies nationwide once again.

October 1 marks the 10th year the City has hosted MFG Day. In previous years, Fremont has joined others in celebrating modern manufacturing by acknowledging the many companies that have established operations in Fremont as well as encouraging the next generation to consider a career in advanced manufacturing by organizing tours at the leading local manufacturing companies’ campuses.

This year’s celebration will be held virtually, building on the success of last year’s MFG Day event, which was moved online due to the impacts of COVID-19. Last year’s MFG Day welcomed up and coming professionals, students, and teachers and included live virtual Q&A sessions with Fremont-based manufacturers. This year’s format will be similar, featuring pre-recorded tours (featured below) along with a virtual Q&A session where students and teachers can engage with employers utilizing a virtual platform created by FUSD, allowing for more than 500 student participants – the most students the City has ever engaged with at this event. This new, even more flexible format allows more students to participate and is ideal for building the future of the advanced manufacturing workforce.
