Not only are the food trucks rolling into downtown Fremont on a regular basis, but an impressive array of brick-and-mortar restaurants will soon call Downtown home as well. The following trendy eateries have signed leases and will be opening their doors in early 2014 to satiate Fremont’s taste buds. Drum roll please …

The Counter

THE COUNTER® is a high-end, yet, casual burger joint opening at Gateway Plaza on the corner of Paseo Padre and Walnut Ave. The restaurant is known for its extensive list of fresh ingredients and specializes in “personalized” burgers. There are more than 300,000 different burger combinations, which means every resident in Fremont can have his or her own unique burger with room left for population growth! The sit-down eatery will have a modern look and features beer, wine and cocktails for patrons to “chillax” with their family and friends.

Pieology

SoCal favorite Pieology features specialty artisan flatbread pizzas. Pieology’s quick “kustom” pizzas are delivered in less than 5 minutes. Can’t decide between burger or pizza for dinner? Well, soon you won’t have to, because Pieology will be located next to THE COUNTER at Gateway Plaza.

Smoking Pig BBQ Company

Have a craving for hot wings? No worries, because San Jose’s Smoking Pig BBQ Company is adding a second location to its family-owned BBQ restaurant in Fremont. This Michelin-rated “hot spot” is known for its slow-cooked, juicy meats, described as “fall off the bone delicious”.

To top off any of these meals, frozen yogurt is just blocks away at Yogurtland and Menchie’s – both located on Mowry Avenue. My favorite topping with frozen yogurt is “popping bobas”– sweet, colorful, explosions in your mouth with every sweet or tart yogurt bite.

And, don’t forget that Fremont’s new Whole Foods will open on September 25th with a “Bread Breaking” celebration. Stay tuned for a special guest blog post on that day, focused on Whole Foods’ Fremont store , the City’s changing demographics and new tenants who will join the market in upcoming months.

Hungry yet? You can visit any one of Fremont’s other 360 restaurants featuring everything from Afghan to Thai to Italian.
