On Wednesday, June 26th, the Fremont City Council, Transit
and Utility Agencies, and local media toured three projects that
comprise an $8B investment in transit and water systems that will
enhance the economic vitality of the greater Bay Area.

1. Mission/Warren Area Improvement (between I-880 and Warm Springs Blvd.

Along the 10-mile BART extension connecting Fremont to Milpitas and
North San Jose are 11 (yes, 11!) grade separation projects so that BART
trains have a dedicated path to enhance safety and reduce congestion.
Upon completion, this Union Pacific train will have its own bridge over a
widened Mission Boulevard and a trenched Warren Avenue. Want the latest
road construction information? Visit: http://www.vta.org/bart/

2. BART Warm Springs/South Fremont Station (between I-880 and I-680, east of Mission Blvd.)

BART’s newest station will open at the end of 2015 at the heart of the Warm Springs Innovation District.
Extending to Warm Springs is a 5.4 mile/$890M endeavor. The $90M
station is the cornerstone of local economic development efforts and
will allow the city to provide thousands of jobs near a major transit
hub. BART Director Tom Blalock called the open design of the station
“efficient and beautiful”. Even more beautiful – the project is on-time
and on-budget.

3. SFPUC Seismic Upgrade of Pipeline @ Hayward Fault (adjacent to I-680/Mission Interchange)

Last, but not least, the SFPUC is upgrading its pipeline to withstand a
major earthquake. This ensures reliable delivery of high-quality water
to 2.6M Hetch Hetchy customers including Fremont residents and
businesses. This $78M project is part of the $4.6B Water System
Improvement Program. This has been deemed the “most complex” of all 82
projects in this program. This video explains why.
